All around the Bighorns there has been a long long tradition of
fostering great art inspired by the West and her people. With
the coming of the new Millennium, there are many who are talking about
the New West Movement. It is a movement no where clearly defined
as it is presently in the process of creating itself. But what
this intriguing title points to is a style that celebrates that great
artistic traditions of the West while not relying on stereotypes of
Western art. It is a new invigorated style for the new millennium.
At Art Works Too we welcome and specialize in such art by local and
regional artists! |

Martha Gibbs
Buffalo, Wyoming
Martha
is one of this region's favorite and most collected artists. A great water-
colorist, Martha captures the spirit of the Bighorn Mountains and surrounding area with
the informed touch of a woman who has lived there all her life and loves what she sees.
She is also a great supporter for the young artists of this region. |

Adam Jahiel
Story, Wyoming
In 1992, Adam Jahiel
moved to Story, Wyoming, a tiny town at the base of the Bighorn Mountains. Jahiel's
personal passion is photographing the cowboy lifestyle. As much as possible,
Jahiel continues to steal away to photograph rodeo and ranch life in (Nevada,
Montana and Wyoming). A major exhibition of his work was shown at the Buffalo Bill
Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming from April 12 through July 4, 1999. Art Works Too
is proud to show his work locally.

Allan Mardon
All over the West and
Bighorns
People
find my painting themes and style available to them but perhaps don't
know why. It may be because of the traditional elements I use that are
archetypical. I combine the simple visual approach of man's earliest
art with the roaming layout of ancient tapestries and murals.
These paintings and their subjects have become one gigantic historical
and spiritual lesson for me. I do what I love, and this is it.

leaders. She is AW2's official Cowgirl Artist Guru Mentor! Her own work is
powerful and incredibly diverse - from the abstract to the still life, from pastels to
acylics to multimedia. She is a gifted colorist and her work is always filled with a
sense of play and wonder and spirit.

Margie Newman
Sheridan, Wyoming
Margie
is a master of the sumi-e -- the Japanese zen tradition of meditative painting with
watercolor. She has taught both at Sheridan College and younger kids -- and Alice
Fuller says she is the best! Margie's work blends the sumi-e style with the natural
wonder of the Bighorns to produce works of quiet simple harmony.

Liz Howell
Story, Wyoming
Liz
produces some of the finest and most unique hand forged sculpture in the Bighorns.
Her work has been exhibited throughout the West. Liz' sculptural work takes
abandoned and lifeless farming and ranching tools and turns them into living, organic
works of art that are filled with wonder and blend with their environment. Liz has
also just produced a collection of Bighorn landscapes that will be exhibited at AW2 later
this fall!
